Carnavon
The coastal Town of CARNARVON is described as "The Hub of the Gascoyne". Just Below the tropic of Capricorn and 904 Km. North of Perth on the North West Coastal highway the town is the main administration centre of the Gascoyne region.

First explored in 1839 the region was not settled until 1876 when the first pastoralist took up land. Now the main industry is winter fruit and vegetable cropping and the Banana plantations spread out along the Gascoyne River which runs through the town, dry most of the year the river holds a huge store of underground water which is pumped up to supply the plantations.

Blessed with a Mild climate and an average temperature of 26 deg Celsius Carnarvon With the Shark Bay World Heritage Region to the south and the Ningaloo Reef area to the north is a Mecca for visitors in the southern winter.

Regular Air and coach tours serve the region. Carnarvon is a popular stopping off point on most self drive itineraries for visitors travelling north.
