The town of Karratha is described as the gateway to the Pilbara with
some of the world's richest mineral deposits and spectacular scenery in
the world renowned Karijini National Park with its rock formations and
canyons formed more than 2,500 million years ago. Karratha is some 1530
Km. North of Perth along the NorthWest Coastal Highway and has become
the best serviced town in the north. The name Karratha comes from
aboriginal words meaning 'good country'. There is a wide range of
accommodation and tourist experiences and the largest regional shopping
centre in the state to serve the visitor before they turn inland for
the Millstream and Karijini national parks. Karratha is well served by
Greyhound coachlines and Qantas airlines serve the town with regular
flights from Perth, Darwin, Broome and Exmouth. |
